Van Jones reports back on his tesimony before Congress and of “Green Collar” Jobs Legislation Efforts underway in Congress–

Van Jones, an award-winning human rights lawyer who recently spoke at an OSI-Baltimore Awards luncheon honoring its newest class of Community Fellows, reports back on his experience testifying before the U.S. Congress’s Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming in favor of Congresswoman Solis’ Clean Energy Jobs proposal.

The proposed bill is to be introduced on July Fourth (”Energy Independence Day”), and will allocate $120 million to “clean energy” vocational training programs, nationally. They contemplate that this money would help 30,000 U.S. workers (and would-be workers) become “green-collar” workers in clean and green industries. Under the proposed leglslation, about $20 million would go specifically to help low-income people and those with barriers to employment.

Baltimore City College High School - the "Castle on the Hill"

http://www.thebaltimorecitycollege.org/

The Country's third oldest high school. It was first opened in 1839 as an all male school. The home of the Knights is the "Castle on the Hill"; it was first opened in the spring of April 1928 and went co-ed in 1978. It became a historic landmark after being opened for 75 years. The "Castle" has gone through a couple of renovations, as recently as the 2005/2006 school year.

At Baltimore City College students are able to take many different classes, and classes of varying difficulty. Students can gain college credit by taking AP classes, or by taking classes in "City's" IB program. Students also challenge themselves with extra-curricular activities. "City's" debate team has won numerous competitions and awards, and continues to be among the best in the city. The same can be said for the mock trial team, it continues to crush its rivals in the city and wins numerous competitions. The Knights also compete to be the best in the athletic realm.
