    The Rodale Institute’s 2007 Organic School Garden Awards

    School students nationwide, grades K through 12, are invited to enter this Organic School Garden Awards competition. If you’re a kid who loves working in your organic school garden to improve your health and the health of the earth, this contest is for you!

    MSN’s and TreeHugger’s “Green Theatre” contest:

    Submit a 1-2 minute video in which you answer the question “What are you doing in your own backyard to help fight climate change?” Submission deadline is June 23rd.

    Prize is five pairs of tickets, along with air travel and lodging, to a Live Earth concert to be held July 7th at London’s Wembley Stadium. More than 100 performers are scheduled to appear, including the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bon Jovi, Snoop Dogg, Melissa Etheridge, the Foo Fighters, Lenny Kravitz, Sheryl Crow, John Mayer, Duran Duran, Korn, Pharrell, the Black Eyed Peas, Akon, Enrique Iglesias, Faith Hill and Tim McGraw.

    Proceeds will create a foundation to combat climate change led by The Alliance for Climate Protection, which is chaired by Al Gore.

    Kidsgardening Photo Contest – deadline Sept 15, 2007 (postmark date)

    Photos may be submitted in two categories:

    1. School and community gardens
    2. Home gardens

    Images to Capture

    They are looking for pictures of kids (individuals or small groups) engaged with plants and gardens. Save your special rose shot for another contest if it doesn’t include children.

    Six prizes (three in each of the two categories)–Gift certificates ranging from $50 to $250 for Kidsgardenings’ catalog and online store.

    The Great Gwynns Falls Trail Hunt
    Contest runs from June 2, 2007 through October 1st (NOW EXTENDED)!

    All contestants who enter with the correct answers will be entered in a drawing to win a NEW BIKE, day passes for a CLIMBING WALL, a TRAPEZE LESSON, CAMPING GEAR, and many other fun prizes!

    Contest open to children and to “children of all ages”–i.e., ADULTS too!

    Clean and Green Calendar Contest
    How would you like your artwork to be seen by over 200,000 households?
    DPW is asking for public artwork to be displayed on the cover of =ts’ 2008 CALENDAR.

    What?
    Two dimensional artwork – photos, paintings, sketches and drawings that
    depict activities related to Public Works.

    Trash Collection – Recycling – City Building Maintenance – Reservoirs – Fountains
    Water Filtration – City Fleet – Community Cleanups – City Strea=s and Waterways
    Authorized Recreational Activities at City Watersheds – Wastewater Treatment

    Art on the Gwynns Falls Trail Photo Safari
    4500 Franklintown Road, Baltimore, MD

    Bring your friends, family and neighbors, a picnic lunch and a camera to Winans Meadow at Leakin Park this Sunday (4500 Franklintown Road, Baltimore) to view, enjoy, and photograph the 2007 Art on the Trail exhibit!

    Tour the show, and talk with artists, historians, and naturalists about the park and the greater Gwynns Falls Trail.

    Art happening and live music throughout the day.
    Followed by an online photo competition on greencitybaltimore.org.

    Prizes will be awarded to the winners of each category at the Art on the Trail Closing Event on September 2.

    Running NOW through Mon, September 10th! Last Day to view the Enviro Art on the Trail and take photos–Sun, Sept 2nd!!!

    Sunday, Sept 2nd is also to be a day of music, media, fun and celebration in Leakin Park, so come out and enjoy the day!!! Details at: http://www.mediasproutfest.org/

    Did you come out to our “Art on the Trail Photo Safari” kick-off event in Leakin Park, 4500 Franklintown Road, Baltimore, MD on Sunday, August 12th? If so, we were THRILLED to have you and hope you had a great time and took lots of pictures!

    If not, never fear–you can still participate in our contest! Just use your photos taken anytime this summer since the “Art on the Trail” opening June 2nd for the last 3 categories, OR head out to Leakin Park between NOW and the “Art on the Trail’s Closing ‘Media Sprout’ Celebration” on Sunday, Sept 2nd and photograph the “Art on the Trail” for the last 3 categories, OR photograph ANYWHERE on the Gwynns Falls Trail for the last two categories!
